Hip solutions to bring back your mobility

Endoscopic surgery and joint preservation

In recent years, endoscopic hip surgery has become more and more important in the treatment of diseases of the hip joint. It represents an elegant method to positively influence early stages of degeneration. However, one mustn’t forget that endoscopic hip surgery is subject to a differentiated spectrum of indications and should only be done by an experienced surgeon, due to risk of potential complications. Indication has to be made individually; a successful surgery can stop the destruction of a hip joint much more effectively than conservative treatment.

Minimally invasive and tissue-sparing replacement

Aside from total hip replacement with a full cemented or non-cemented prosthesis, minimally invasive total hip replacement has become more and more prominent in recent years. With these, you generally have to differentiate between a minimally invasive implantation technique that protects joints and soft tissue or if the implantation of so-called mini-prosthesis is advised. Depending on the patient’s initial condition, the gentle, minimally invasive approach is done as a standard.

Based on our experiences and results of international studies, we implant so-called mini-prosthesis very rarely, as it is currently not clear whether these prosthesises hold a long-term advantage over the standard treatments.

Total hip replacement: Proven safety and durability

Standard replacement of the hip joint with cement-free or cemented hip prosthesises is considered safe and has been done in Europe for more than 20 years, although it must be said that cement-free prosthesises are preferred. Based on the fact that all hip prosthesises currently available worldwide originated in Germany, Switzerland and Italy and had their durability proven through extensive studies, it is safe to say that, depending on the individual surgery indication, safe treatment on the highest level is possible.

Complex revision surgery and implant exchange

Revision surgery has a special significance these days. There are clear rules which ensure that, in the event of a revision surgery, reaction is different in case of a so-called aseptic loosening of the prosthesis (normal wear and tear of the implant) than it would be in case of a septic loosening of the prosthesis. Planning of such procedures always takes place individually and is based on the extensive results of the European registry for endoprosthetics and currently available scientific literature.
